‘The Grievances Of life’ by Shilpa Pitroda is a short story woven around three lives. Aahil confronts the truth about his life right after his father’s death that tears him apart. Dhyey is baffled to find about the extramarital affair of his dad. His father’s infidelity drives him to take an extreme step. Mithil is head over heels in love with Afreen and loses her on a trip. Will this loss break him?

The stories are simple ones revolving around the misery of human lives. At the prima facie, we assume that things are good. But as we dwell deeper in the caves, the revelation startles us. It is not as it appears. The truth is bitter and the reality is not pleasant forever. Harsh cruelties of life even crumble our souls to suck the life out of us!

The book is written nicely. The stories are chosen wisely though I felt that the development of the plotline has not been given ample space. One would not be able to cherish the stories as they seem to be mundane. They ended abruptly with no proper ending. It felt as if they have been left loose in the wilderness. I appreciate the work done on the theme but it didn’t turn out as expected.

I see potential in the writer and hence, would recommend her to work a little longer on crafting the stories so that they are able to leave an impact. Rest, the book is a good and a light read for newbies
