BLURB as on Goodreads
Trapped in a world without any memory of where home is, Gina thinks she might be lost forever. As she braves a terrible storm and makes new friends who also wish to escape the wicked paradise she discovers the ultimate secret. Will Gina be able to escape the garden? Will Jonah ever see his sister again? Only those who enter the beautiful and exciting world of Merilla City will ever know.
To live in a world of fantasy is amazing especially when the reality is overwhelming. Amidst all the anxiety I am living with and a stubborn reading slump, I picked up this short entertaining read. I finished it in one go and truly liked it.
Merilla City Rising Tides by Tatiana Handfield is the story of Gina who is trapped in a mysterious world. The catch is will she be able to come out of it? That mysterious world has strange creatures who know so much about Gina’s real life. Eerie, right?
Yes, it took me some time to get into the book. But once I was in, it was a good ride. I was just a little disappointed with its abrupt ending. Perhaps, I wanted more. I wanted to know the characters more. I wanted the story to stretch a little bit to grab my attention fully.
Clear writing coupled with engaging illustrations made it a good read. In fact, children would love munching on this pleasant and adventurous read. It is definitely perfect for them to have a good time as the book not only has an engaging plot but also decent language and writing. The book does need revision with regard to punctuation and typographical errors. Rest, it is fine.
MY RATING: 3/ 5
