Author Interview

Author Interview | Jordan Hollis | Backyard Soldiers: Operations Volume 1

Backyard Soldiers: Operations Volume 1 by Jordan Hollis is primarily a collection of four stories that follow toy soldiers talking to each other. Yes, the inanimate objects fight and interact among themselves and the world outside as they play on the board. This novel concept comes into play as the author attempts to talk about human values through these miniature soldiers.

In a quick chat with Bookish Fame, Jordan Hollis spilled beans about his book, his writing journey, and what to expect next.

Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi, my name is Jordan Hollis. I run a gaming and World building youtube channel, I create maps, write books and play video games.

When did it dawn upon you that you wanted to be a writer?

2020, mainly after a break up but I pushed my writing when I went to a publisher for this book and later was terminated cause of creative differences. But I do plan to fix whatever mistakes in this book and republish it under another company.

What inspires you to write books? What are the things which catch your attention?

Nothing, just pure imagination and the fact that I love to write creatively.

Tell something in brief about your latest book?

Book Review
Backyard Soldiers: Operations Volume 1 | Jordan Hollis

If you like books that has a game into it, toy soldiers fighting for objectives and watching the human players go through life. Then this book is for you. It’s a table top played game while also taking the human characters and watching them go through events in life.

How do you organise yourself, as a writer, to keep track of the world you’re writing about?

I write at 5 AM my time and go until 9 AM or 8 AM. Or even multitask while doing one thing, playing my game for example. My character is dead, I go open my laptop write a few words down or edit one or two things that crossed my mind and keep it going.

When you were young, did you ever see writing as a career or full-time profession?

No I didn’t and I really, really enjoy the creative career.

How did you approach the writing process this time around? Do you have a set routine or does it vary? And how do you manage it with your full-time work?

That is a hard one.  I don’t really know how to answer that question honestly.

How would you describe the contemporary scenario of writing and reading around the world?

Jordan Hollis

That’s complicated too. There are so many answers to the point where I’d rather not be the one to answer it.

How crucial is marketing and promotions when it comes to selling a book?

It’s important, but it wasn’t done correctly.  I did sell at least 20 to 30 copies. But it stagnated. So it’s important for success but I wasn’t expecting it to be this best selling on the first try either.

Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?

Don’t have any.

Any advice you would like to give to aspiring writers.

Like me if you learned how to publish and wish to try again don’t be discouraged. It’s ok to republish a book, I used this book to learn the publishing process. I have my rights to my work and my other stuff to this book still because I want to take it to a publisher that I feel would want to see it. I still have a lot!! to learn in this industry I’m not mad or upset at all. Nothing but lessons

Are we going to hear more from you in the future?

If that’s what you guys wish. 🙂 I’ll be writing and uploading videos

*We wish Author Jordan Hollis all the best for his future endeavors.*
