Adyakshar by Ankur Agarwal is a collection of Hindi poems centered around the idea of ‘unrequited love.’ The poems capture the pain one collects in oneself as they live with the unreciprocated love.
Bookish Fame had the pleasure of chatting with Ankur Agarwal, where he talked about his book, his inspiration behind writing, and more. Read here.
- Please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I am Ankur Agarwal, a firm believer in “Life is mostly froth and bubble…..”. I currently reside in Gurgaon; I studied engineering at Birla Institute of Technology and then made a discreet foray into entrepreneurship. That journey is still on……! I love playing harmonica and trying out new things every now and then.
- When did it dawn upon you that you wanted to be a writer?
Then In 2011, after a long stint with a company I still love, I made a move and changed my domain. In this new domain, I realized that there is a huge gap between technical information and readily available knowledge. I have always loved to explain things to people in simple ways and I published my first book in 2013 which was a technology book published by PEI Media, London.
करीब तीन साल पहले मन के किसी कोने ने फिर एक बार लिखने की ओर रुझान किया और एक नया सिलसिला शुरू हुआ जो की इस कविता संग्रह (“आद्याक्षर”) तक पहुँच गया I
- What inspires you to write books? What are the things which catch your attention?
I believe that art in any form is a great therapy…it’s rejuvenating. I have been fortunate to have a lot of friends and colleagues; I have observed over the years that many of them have a calm exterior but with complex emotions and thoughts that run underneath.
Though not exactly my own journey and emotions, but via my very close friends and colleagues, I have realized that it’s very important to let these pent-up emotions out and art (like painting or writing) could be very helpful in this. So to keep it short – it’s all about the emotions I believe and for me जज़्बातों की अभिव्यक्ति के लिए हिंदी ही श्रेष्ठ माध्यम है…!!
- Tell me something in brief about your book?
“Adyakshar” is a bouquet of Hindi poems with “unrequited love” or “unanswered love” as the primary theme. Poems in this book not only attempt to portray love through metaphors but also paint a blend of emotions a lover goes through in the journey of unanswered love. Sounds a bit complicated but actually, these poems are in very simple Hindi that makes it even easier for everyone to relate to.
- How do you organize yourself, as a writer, to keep track of the world you’re writing about?
Notes app on my phone is a great companion! Whenever there is a thought, an observation on emotion, or a rhyming pattern of words I try to put it in my Notes app because it’s very important to capture them at that moment itself. Later in the day, when I sit alone, I connect them and give them the full color of creativity.
- How did you approach the writing process this time around? Do you have a set routine or does it vary? And how do you manage it with your full-time work?
I think one always finds time for what they want to do. For me, it has been late evening walks that have given me that time and mood to write poetry.
- What do you hope your readers take away from this book?
Keep the fire on! Persistence pays! Unrequited love is not alone in this world….it happens….everyone goes through such emotions. It’s important to be persistent; keep expressing yourself and poetry could help a lot. With this intent, if the readers can relate themselves to these poems then this humble attempt, “Adyakshar”, will consider itself rewarded.”
- Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?
To list some of my reads – “Gone with the wind”, “Shantaram”, “Catch-22”, “The White Tiger”, “The Alchemist” etc. And I love reading books of my close friend and bestselling author – Karan Bajaj 😊
- Any advice you would like to give to aspiring writers.
Everyone has a book in them…and it should come out! Do not ever think – “Who will read it?” – write for yourself and that’s most important. Enjoy and pen down your creativity; it’s a journey you will always love!
- Are we going to hear more from you in the future?
“आद्याक्षर” हिंदी कविता में मेरा पहला प्रयास है and I am overwhelmed with the response I have got for “Adyakshar” so far…it’s beyond my expectations! I sincerely hope that “Adyakshar” will continue to touch the heart of its readers and would love to hear their feedback.
I didn’t realize it has been exactly 7 years when I am getting published again in a totally different genre! As a writer till now, I have attempted two totally contrasting genres and I do have some thoughts on what should be the next one.
*We wish Author Ankur Agarwal all the best for his future endeavors.*
