A Ruminative Heart by Akanksha Singh is a collection of bilingual poems that speak for a heart that feels and lives, a bit too much. The themes of these poems range from love, hope, and inspiration to determination and magic. Each poem has a deep thought behind it and the author has tried to bring it out to the best of her abilities.

Comprising 110 poems – 55 each in Hindi and English – A Ruminative Heart is an ideal pick for anyone new to poetry. The poems have a simple writing style and some of them are very profound. I especially loved Hindi poems for they had a greater impact on me as a reader.

Some of the poems ask us to pick up ourselves after every fall and try again. Some will teach us to be optimistic about the future. Some will make us humble while others will jolt us out of our doubts. Some will give a better view of life while others will show us the importance of being on this journey.

All in all, A ruminative Heart has the simplicity and the rhythm to hold one’s heart pining for some good poetic lines. Although a few places seemed overly poetic in the way they moulded words, the rest are good to go!
