Book Review

‘We all have to deal with our own Karma. it’s a strange thing, carrying the burden of life until the end when death is inevitable. The madness of the Creator, the craziness of the destroyer and the Prudence of the Protector- the trinity- all caught in their own traps.’

Like the Radiant Sun by Anu Kay is a contemplative and thrilling novel on the ancient art, Marma Kala, that attempts to capture our approach towards living our lives. It starts with our protagonist, Rohan, an archaeologist, trying to protect the ancient manuscript. Having the script of marma kala in his possession brings him trouble but he tries everything possible to not let it fall into the hands of devious beings.

The book essentially follows Rohan’s journey and his confrontation with the truth of Secret Societies and Brotherhood. Replete with thrill and intrigue, Like the Radiant Sun travels to different lands in the process of Rohan deciphering cryptic manuscripts. What’s more? It has some beautiful and thought-provoking lines.

The storyline took some time establishing itself in the first few pages but once the mystery unfolded, there was no stopping. I liked the well-drawn character sketches and how they contributed to the build-up of the story. The description of their aura and actions was quite vivid and compelling. In addition to this, solid research behind the narrative and taut writing definitely kept me reading.

Anu has done some wonderful work at writing a novel that blends history and mythology pretty well. Being a debut work, it performs very well in storytelling and leaves its readers hooked. I believe beginners and mid-level readers would certainly enjoy reading this book.
