Short stories are fun to read and easy to assimilate. They never stretch far too much and provide for a smooth consumption of the content. Sounds cool, right?

The Grandmaster & Other Short Stories by Chinmaya Desai is a collection of 17 short stories that contain an element of quirk and twist to blow your minds with their unpredictable endings. The inspiration behind these stories are drawn out of different aspects of quotidian lives and that makes them extremely simple and relatable. They appear to be like short, sweet, and nice but they do give out an eerie vibe.

Each story had a different theme and ended with a quote that was another good thing. The writing style was easy yet refined. I absolutely liked the author’s writing and would love to read more from him. Although the stories were not very surprising and unique, they manage to entertain us due to their lucid narration which could have been better. The pace of the stories was balanced and their entire presentation in terms of language and other literary devices employed was convincing. So yes, this one could prove to be an ideal read for someone who’s just starting out at reading. Moreover, if someone wishes to engage in some light reading and absolutely likes short stories, you might give this book a shot.
