Dark Blue Sea by Shruti Rathi is a collection of delightful poems which uses metaphors to express the discovery of the real self. It is divided into three parts and while all of them were good, the third one turned out to be my favorite.
The poems are short, easy, and contemplative. They focus on life, living, desires, love, emotions, self-exploration, passion through a meticulous weaving of words. In the tapestry of Dark Blue Sea, you’ll find all the important and beautiful beads. Poems have a way with the human heart and with a correct application, one could reap excellent results. The author has beautifully carved an image of all what she wants to convey through the book. The cover itself is visually appealing.
‘I breathe.
I release my boundaries. I redefine me.
I breathe and I breathe free.’
This was my favorite out of all. Also, the author has put forth the responsibility we own for ourselves. As she says,” I am the tormentor of my own journey, How do I make it to the end of the sea?” I was truly moved by this expression. The book has a certain depth to offer you. So, if you like to indulge in contemporary poetry which is light and decent, you may pick this one up!
MY RATING: 3.5/ 5
